by admin477351

As NATO prepares for its summit in Turkey, Secretary-General Mark Rutte has urged member countries and partner nations to continue their military support for Ukraine, emphasizing the need for air defense systems. Rutte, addressing the alliance in Ankara before the two-day meeting, highlighted Ukraine’s ability to change the dynamics on the battlefield but stressed the importance of ongoing international aid to bolster its defense. The summit is anticipated to introduce new multi-year commitments aimed at aiding Ukraine.

Rutte strongly criticized the recent extensive Russian assaults on Ukrainian cities, which have led to civilian casualties. He noted the uncertainty surrounding what might convince Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage in meaningful peace talks. Finnish President Alexander Stubb shared a positive outlook on Ukraine’s current position, remarking that the country has gained strategic momentum, and its operations within Russia have shifted global perceptions of the conflict.

A key focus of the summit will be on enhancing NATO’s defense capabilities. The alliance is working towards a goal of allocating 5% of GDP to defense spending by 2035, reflecting increased demands for military preparedness. Rutte highlighted the significant rise in defense spending by European NATO members and Canada, noting that these efforts are contributing to a stronger alliance.
