Netherlands Pledges €1.2 Billion Aid for Ukraine During Zelenskyy’s Hague Visit

The Netherlands has pledged €1.2 billion in non-military aid to Ukraine over the next three years, coinciding with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to The Hague for discussions with Dutch officials. The aid package aims to support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

During his visit, Zelenskyy is meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Defence Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz, and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. He is also scheduled to attend a reception with King Willem-Alexander, highlighting the diplomatic ties between the two nations.

A significant portion of the Dutch package, €40 million, is earmarked for the repair of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been damaged by Russian military strikes. This funding is particularly crucial as Ukraine prepares for the upcoming winter season. Additionally, €55 million is allocated for the purchase of generators, transformers, compressors, and other essential equipment from Dutch companies, ensuring these resources reach Ukraine as needed.

To further support the delivery of these materials, the Dutch government has made €136 million available for related efforts and increased export credit insurance to mitigate financial risks for companies providing equipment to Ukraine. This initiative underscores the Netherlands’ commitment to maintaining robust support for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s visit to The Hague follows Prime Minister Jetten’s trip to Kyiv in March, shortly after his government assumed office. The ongoing dialogue between the two leaders emphasizes the importance of sustained international backing for Ukraine during this challenging period.

The Netherlands’ financial and diplomatic support also aligns with international efforts to evaluate war-related damage in Ukraine and establish mechanisms for compensation. This aid package reflects the Netherlands’ continued commitment to assisting Ukraine as it navigates the impacts of the war with Russia.
